Crochet Abbreviations, Terms and Symbols

Hello Crocheters!

Have you ever had a crochet pattern and you have wonder what are the stitches names in American  or British terms?

In a crochet pattern, It is very common to find special abbreviations listed at the beginning of the pattern. Each writer can used their own abbreviations .

There are so many terms and abbreviations , It can be confusing, specially if you just started crocheting and you are trying to memorize all.

Here a quick tip, If you are using an English pattern, you need to check if pattern is written in American or British terms , One way , I check is look for key words like “Treble” commonly used in a British pattern. There are few stitches that have different names. It is important you differentiate and follow instructions and abbreviations of the pattern you are following.  Down below, I provided a quick comparison for the stitches the crocheters confuse the most when following patterns.
